Solar panels (also known as solar collectors) certification programmes applies to that part of a solar energy system that is exposed to the sun and collects the suns heat. These panels/collectors can be used to heat water, air or other heat transfer liquids.The rating and certification programme for solar hot water systems integrates results of solar panels/collectors tests with a performance model for the entire systems and determines whether systems meet minimum standards for system durability, reliability, safety and operation.
Factors affecting total system design, installation, maintenance and service are also evaluated. A direct comparison of a rated solar panel/collector to a rated solar water heating system is not possible.
The rating and certification aim to provide you (the buyer) with reliable and comparable data for solar water heating solar panels/collectors you may be considering buying. The rating information is a helpful tool for comparing the efficiency of the various solar panels/collectors on the market. While you can, and should, compare solar panels/collectors ratings, you cannot compare solar panels/collectors ratings with system ratings. All solar panels/collectors which have been certified will bear the approved label, which is your assurance that an independent party has verified the performance and basic durability of the solar product you are considering.

INFORMATION RATING DATA relates to the energy output of the solar panel/collector. The performance information contained provides a way to compare the relative performance of different solar water heating collectors, not the actual performance you can expect from a given panel/collector. This is because the panels/collectors and systems are tested under standard laboratory conditions which are certain to be different from those in your home.
PLEASE NOTE; solar panels or solar collectors are the name given for the same product line. It depends from where and from who and from which country you buy them from that determines what they are called.
